Why is it that Christians feel they have the right to impose their religious beliefs on the whole country? I thought that this country was founded on freedom of religious belief. What's even more astounding is that most Christians do not follow the bible anyway (when was the last time a Christian was put to death for working on Sunday?), but they sure wave the bible when it is something that they don't personally like.

But what I really want to know is why the government is in the marriage business in the first place. "Marriage" is a religious construct, and as such, should be left to religion. All the government should issue civil unions to handle the union of two people for legal purposes. If two people want to be legally bound in the eyes of the government, they register their union. If they want to be married in the eyes of the church, they get married in accordance with customs on their religion, in addition to their civil union.
The government is supposed to represent all it citizens, that is why there is supposed to be a separate between church and state.
We are NOT a christian nation, we are a FREE nation where all citizen enjoy EQUAL rights under the law.
